Girls Who Code by Reshma Saujani

This book is about code and how to code. It is a STEM book. The contents are 1. Hello World. 2. Why coding. 3. How to Talk to your computer. 4. Putting it all together. 5. Getting Started. 6. Cracking the “CODE”. 7. Debugging. 8. Video Games. 9. Digital Art and Design. 10. Websites, Mobile Apps, and Online Security. And more like conclusion and index.

The characters are Lucy, Sophia, Maya, Erin, and Leila. Lucy, her birthday is May 20th. She likes science, music, and video games. Sophia, her birthday is November 13th. She likes sports, nail art, and taking selfies. Maya, her birthday is June 3rd. She likes writing, drawing, fashion, and giving advice. Erin, her birthday is February 26th. She likes baking, theater, and reading. Leila, her birthday is August 22nd. She likes robotics, gardening, and hanging out with her big sister.

The author wrote this and dedicated “to all the girls who code and to the girls who will one day.” The author also hoped that girls will be able able to learn coding and be equal to men.

There are 157 pages, but the story is kind of like a comic book. We are basically reading what the teacher is saying and what the characters are asking. So, we can read all the dialogue that the characters are talking about. I think this book is perfect for girls who want to learn coding but don’t know where to start.
